5 Great Yorkshire Events Taking Place in 2019

If you’ve found yourself on our website, then you probably know enough about the Yorkshire Dales to want to visit. Rolling hills, quaint villages and towns and cities bursting with history and character are all good enough reasons to visit this magical part of the UK. However, you may want to time your visit around a specific event and there are plenty of those planned for 2019.

Here are just a few of the exciting events which will be taking place in 2019. Take a look through the list and if anything grabs your fancy, head over to our reservations page to check availability. At The Barn, we have plenty of space and can comfortably accommodate 10 guests. So, get your friends and family together and join us at one of the many excellent events being hosted within a short distance from our luxury holiday home in Yorkshire.


Ilkley Beer Festival

8th & 9th February

Enjoy great food, good ale and excellent entertainment at the annual Ilkley Beer Festival. Organised by Ilkley Round Table, last year’s event was described as a “rip-roaring success”. The event takes place each year at King’s Hall and ticket holders are able to enjoy some 20,000 pints of beers and ciders and a number of proseccos and gin liqueurs. The fabulous Lishman’s of Ilkley usually provide the food and keep stomachs lined with their delicious homemade pies and cured meats. If you’re a fan of good ale and you’re staying with us on the 8th or 9th of February, we recommend booking your tickets as soon as possible!


Harrogate Spring Flower Show


26 – 29 April 2019

Harrogate Spring Flower Show is widely regarded as one of the biggest and best gardening shows in the UK. Run by the North of England Horticultural Society, the spectacular celebration of the new growing season, was rated as Britain’s best gardening event by Which? Harrogate is just a 30 minute drive from The Barn and if you have a passion for horticulture, this is an event you won’t want to miss!


Grassington Festival

21-29 June 2019

Grassington Festival is an annual celebration of music and arts that takes place in the picturesque village of Grassington. This is always a really fun event with a variety of acts and shows on offer. The comedy acts are usually the biggest attraction as they always get some big name comedians to entertain the crowds. All the details for this year’s event haven’t yet been released but, comedians Sindhu Vee, David Haddingham and Ed Byrne are among the acts already confirmed.


The Yorkshire Dales Food & Drink Festival


20th – 21st July 2019

The Yorkshire Dales Food & Drink Festival is back in 2019 for it’s 4th event. Head over to Funkirk Farm in Skipton for a fantastic foodie weekend. Enjoy live celebrity demonstrations by the Hairy Bikers, Brian Turner, Mary Berry and Lisa Faulkner, take part in fun foodie workshops and sample some of the best street food the UK has to offer. There will also be plenty of entertainment for the whole family including a vintage fun fair and some excellent musical tribute acts. This really is one of the best events in Yorkshire and it’s immensely popular with both locals and tourists.


Ilkley Literature Festival

4th – 20th October 2018

We are blessed to have one of the UK’s best literature festivals taking place on our doorstep each year. After two years of planning and fundraising, the first festival was launched by W.H. Auden in April 1973. By 1988 it became an annual event has gone from strength to strength ever since. They have welcomed numerous famous authors, Nobel Prize winners and international figures over the years for talks, readings and workshops. Last year alone, they welcomed big names such as Mooen Ali, Carol Ann Duffy, Nadiya Hussain and Mary Portas. The full programme for the 2019 event won’t be released until the summer but we’ll keep you updated!
