7 Things To Do In Ilkley With Kids

WIth 5 good sized bedrooms and a spacious open plan living area, our Yorkshire holiday home is perfect for large families. We have Sky Q television in both the upstairs and ground floor living areas, a selection of books and toys and plenty of outdoor space for them to run around.

However, if you would rather get them out for the day, there are lots of different places nearby worthy of a family day out.

Here, are a few of our favourite things to do in Ilkley with kids…

Ilkley Toy Museum

Suitable for Babies & Toddlers, Younger Children and Older Children

Ilkley Toy Museum houses one of the finest collections of dolls and toys in England. With exhibits dating back to as far as 350BC, it provides a fascinating insight into how toys and child play have evolved over the centuries. They have some wonderful displays of toys from the 50’s and 60’s so it’s a great chance to show the kids / grandkids the kind of toys that you used to play with as a child.

Clip n Climb

Suitable for ages 4 and up

Kids climbing the walls? Clip n Climb is a fun indoor climbing centre that offers both kids and adults a different way to burn off some excess energy. Their colorful indoor climbing gym has 21 different climbs of varying difficulties. You don’t need to have climbed before as the staff will give you a safety briefing before you start. This place offers something a little different to other children’s play areas and will hopefully have them sufficiently worn out for bedtime!

Generous Pioneer

The Generous Pioneer is a Greene King pub with a Wacky Warehouse. Sit down and enjoy a relaxed family meal and let the kids loose in the soft play areas. If you don’t want to eat in the pub, then you can get hot drinks, soft drinks and a range of light bites and sweet treats at Wacky Warehouse. These can be enjoyed on the comfy leather sofas whilst the kids enjoy themselves.

Ilkley Pool and Lido

Suitable for all ages

The heated indoor pool at Ilkley Pool and Lido is open all year round so it’s a great option for a rainy day. During the warmer months (May to September) their outdoor pool and cafe is open. If swimming isn’t your thing, then you can also book their green bowls, putting green and tennis courts in advance.

The Ilkley Mystery Trail

Suitable for older kids and teenagers

Take part in this self-guided treasure trail and explore both the moors and the town as a family. A guidebook from the Treasure Trails website will provide you with all the information and hints you need to discover secret spots and uncover the various clues dotted around the area. It’s a great way to learn more about Ilkley as you’ll need to take a closer look at all the buildings and landmarks. The Ilkley Mystery Trail should take you around 2.5 hours in total.

Ilkley Riverside Gardens

Suitable for all ages

This is a beautiful little park located beside the River Wharfe. It’s ideal for a leisurely riverside stroll or a family picnic. Here, you’ll find some excellent play equipment for the kids so you’re bound to spend a good couple of hours here. If you head to the Visitor Information Centre before you go, you can pick up a fishing license and make a whole day of it!

Create Cafe

Located in Ilkley’s Victorian arcade, Create is a wonderful child-friendly  cafe offering pottery painting. Sit back and enjoy a slice of homemade cake and a Yorkshire brew whilst the little ones get creative with the painting activities. Or, join in the fun and make your very own holiday souvenir to take home with you.
