Things to do in Ilkley on a rainy day

Rainy Days and Fun Days!

We have a long list of reasons for loving the Yorkshire Dales but the weather certainly isn’t one of them! If you’re lucky enough to avoid downpours during your stay with us, then you’ll probably want to explore the local area and enjoy scenic walks across the Moors.  Unfortunately, we cannot guarantee that your arrival will coincide with glorious sunshine and clear skies. Therefore, we’ve put together a list of indoor activities that can be added to your itinerary at short notice.

Things to do Near Ilkley on a Rainy Day…

Ilkley Toy Museum

Housing one of the finest collections of toys in the country, Ilkley Toy Museum is a great little place for older children and adults alike. Their collection dates back as far as 350BC and includes some truly excellent display of toys from the 1950s and 1960s. They also sell a range of toys, games and jigsaws, which make ideal gifts and holiday souvenirs for the kids.

Science and Media Museum

The Science and Media Museum in Bradford city centre has always attracted vast numbers of both local and national visitors. It is home to world-famous collections in photography, film and television and offers unique, interactive learning opportunities including their new ‘Wonderlab’ gallery. They also have three cinema screens – including the region’s largest IMAX.

Clip n Climb

If you fancy doing something a bit more physical but don’t want to brave the elements, head to Ilkley’s indoor climbing centre. They have an excellent selection of fun climbing activities and there is something suitable for all abilities. Great fun for all the family and you don’t need any climbing experience to be able to join in the fun.

Cliffe Castle Park and Museum

Cliffe Castle in Keighley was originally the mansion home of Victorian millionaire and textile manufacturer, Henry Issac Butterfield. In its heyday, the house itself was a glorious example of fine art and French interior design. It’s been open to the public since the 1950’s and has very recently undergone a major restoration. It’s free entry for all at Cliffe Castle so you can peruse the opulent interiors and marvel at the outstanding art displays, without paying a penny.

At The Barn, we’ve done our upmost to ensure all our guests have everything they need during their stay. If the weather is on the chilly side and it’s too wet to venture outside, snuggle up by our wood burning stove and make use of the Sky Q television package.  Relax – you’re on holiday!

Did you visit any of these places during your stay with us? Perhaps we’ve missed something from our list. We’d love to hear your recommendations!
