We really loved this property. We had a family gathering here to celebrate our daughter’s 30th birthday and really could not have chosen anywhere better. The property is a very handsome barn conversion in local stone with exposed beams and looks really beautiful. Inside it is fitted out to the highest specification and furnished in character with the building. What we loved were the individual touches – each bedroom had its own character and feel and the little incidentals such as pictures, knick knacks etc. showed that great care and thought had been put in.
The location is wonderful, sitting high above Ilkley and the Wharfe Valley with splendid views over the town and Ilkley Moor on the other side of the valley. Go up the wonderfully named Hunger Hill behind the property and within minutes you are up on wild and glorious heather peat moors with just the grouse for company. You can also be down in the lovely town of Ilkley in no time. The house is set in a former farmyard so nice and secluded and with very friendly neighbours. Jo was so helpful and nothing was too much trouble for us. We had a couple of extra people staying over on the birthday night and not only did Jo raise no objections with this but she supplied a blow up mattress for us. We also found on our arrival a mother’s day cake (from Betty’s Tea Room no less), a dozen eggs from Jo’s own hens, and a bottle of wine in the fridge. These and everything else made us feel that Jo really welcomed us being in her house. Probably the best compliment that I can pay this property is to say that, for the 4 days that we were there it felt properly like home and not just a holiday let. I cannot recommend it too highly. We will definitely be returning for another extended family gathering.
