Ilkley Literature Festival 2017

The Barn’s Guide to…. Ilkley Literature Festival 2017

Here, at The Barn, we love a good book. We are also incredibly lucky to be located so near to one of the country’s most popular Literature festivals.

Ilkley Literature Festival was launched by W.H. Auden in 1973. Originally a biennial event, it became an annual festival in 1988. Today, it is a 17-day celebration of literature; comprising numerous talks, workshops, exhibitions and performances. The majority of the events take place in Ilkley itself but a number are located in nearby Bradford. Ilkley has played host to numerous reputable authors over the past 40 years. International figures, Nobel Prize winners and best-selling poets have entertained, educated and inspired attendees and the annual event has gone from strength to strength.

This year’s festival promises to be bigger and better than ever.  Dubbed ‘The North’s Largest and Most Exciting Literature Festival’, Ilkley Literature Festival 2017 will commence on 29th September.

The full programme will be available on the event’s website from Thursday 17th August and tickets go on sale on Tuesday 29th August.

With big names such as Alan Bennett, Sarah Millican, Victoria Derbyshire, Evan Davis and Baroness Shami Chakrabarti amongst those headlining this year’s festival, we recommend booking your tickets as soon as possible.

Located just outside Ilkley and accommodating up to 10 guests, our luxury holiday home is the ideal base for groups of friends attending Ilkley Literature Festival. We still have a few midweek dates available during October but they’re bound to fill up quickly once the full event programme has been released. Can’t make it to this year’s festival? We are also taking bookings for next October. With Ilkley Literature Festival 2017 already looking like it will be a huge success, we expect next year’s event will be equally as popular!
